Steven Underwood is an intellectual property law litigator. Before joining Price Heneveld in 1999, he was based in Chicago, where he developed a broad intellectual property law practice. Both then and since, he has lead or participated in many lawsuits in federal courts around the country involving patents, trademarks, trade dress, and copyrights. Mr. Underwood has a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, a B.M.E. from the University of Detroit Mercy and practical experience as an automotive engineer. Mr. Underwood has advised clients in all aspects of intellectual property law and has been involved with technologies that include the mechanical, pharmaceutical, electrical, food science and software arts. He is a member of the bars of Michigan, Illinois, and the District of Columbia; is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan, the Northern District of Illinois, the Northern District of Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal, Sixth and Second Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court; and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He is also a member of the American, Grand Rapids and Chicago Bar Associations, the Association of Intellectual Property Law Attorneys and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Mr. Underwood has been rated AV by his peers according to Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating (see link above).
